Katy Pfaffl
Born and raised in Milwaukee, Katy Pfaffl grew up as a classical musician. She began studying Suzuki violin at age 6, piano at age 12 and by the age of 13 she was competing as a serious classical pianist throughout the Midwest. In high school her creative interests grew leading her to become a Downbeat Award winning jazz vocalist as well as the top young composer for contemporary orchestral music in Wisconsin.
Shortly after attending college at the University of Cincinnatis College Conservatory of Music, Katy moved to New York and began performing as a singer/pianist/violinist in the band SWIM while earning a reputation the therapeutic voice teacher she is to this day. Striving for musical freedom and in search of her individual voice, Katy taught herself the guitar, and started The Katy Pfaffl Band launching her full speed into the local NY singer/songwriter scene.
Within months, Katy recorded and released her first album Katy Pfaffl in New York City, followed soon after by her second album As She Stands released in 2003.
Katy marries her brand of raw sincerity and gorgeous melody with a commodity so rare in today's singer/songwriter arena: talent. Her sound is sweetyet urgent, light yet soulful, and instantly memorable.
Katy Pfaffl can be seen performing regularly throughout Manhattan/NJ/LA as well as within the college circuit. Read more on Last.fm. User-contributed text is available under the Creative Commons By-SA License; additional terms may apply.
